Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson Jim Hume has called into question the SNP Government's environmental credentials after it was revealed in Parliamentary Questions that only 14% of the Government's fleet is comprised of green vehicles.
Jim Hume MSPThe answers revealed that while the SNP Government may talk up their green credentials, out of the 208 cars they have only 26 are hybrid vehicles with a further 3 electric vehicles.
Commenting, Mr Hume said:
"The SNP love to say that they are world leaders on climate change, making the most of every opportunity to talk the talk on the environment. However these answers reveal that the SNP are not taking enough action in Government to back up their warm words.
"With only 14% of their fleet either hybrid or electric, they are not setting the example that we would hope for from a government that has set significant climate change targets.
"The technology for electric or hybrid cars is improving and the cost of electric vehicles has dropped significantly so it would be good to see this SNP Government making more use of them.
"By opting for vehicles with cleaner emissions they could be setting a real example for the rest of the country to follow.
"We have already heard that the Scottish Government estate has been ranked 1,153 in the league table ranking the energy-efficient practices of major organisations in the UK.
"Sadly, it seems the SNP Government lack the drive to take any action that could actually make a difference."
