George Lyon, Liberal Democrat MEP for Scotland, has guaranteed his support for Scottish fishermen as the European Parliament votes on reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
Mr Lyon has also persuaded his eighty-four strong liberal group to support key Scottish amendments put forward by colleagues.
Commenting, Mr Lyon said:
"There are key amendments being voted on that reinforce the call for the CFP to be decentralised and for decision making power to be handed down to local level.
"This must include fishermen as well as fishing communities. I hope that the rest of the European Parliament backs these reforms which are vital for a sustainable fishing future."
