Commenting as the Scottish Parliament is set to debate the review on water safety capabilities in Scotland, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll and Bute, Alan Reid said: "Following April's tragic accident at Loch Awe, it is vital that Scotland's inland water rescue capabilities are reformed.
"First and foremost public education on water safety is important. People need to know the dangers around lochs, rivers and canals. The national register of freshwater assets is also a welcome recommendation.
"The Scottish Government needs to act to coordinate all the agencies, including the voluntary and private sector organisations which make such a valuable contribution.
"This kind of confusion cannot happen again."
