Speaking ahead of a debate on C. Difficile, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has demanded the Health Secretary order an immediate Public Inquiry into C. Difficile in Scottish hospitals.
The Health Secretary has, so far, ignored the will of Parliament by refusing to order such an inquiry, citing interference with an ongoing police investigation as an excuse.
Commenting, Mr Finnie said:
"The Health Secretary's continued refusal to order a Public Inquiry into C. Diff is baffling.
"Her argument against an inquiry crumbled yesterday when her own task force published their inquiry into the Vale of Leven incident. Their inquiry clearly didn't interfere with the police investigation.
"As the relatives of those who died in the Vale of Leven outbreak will testify, C. Diff can be a killer infection. The Health Secretary owes it to the health of Scotland's patients to order a Public Inquiry immediately."
